Michael Frost Lands Feature Role of John the Baptist in “The Miracle”

2009 Season — Michael Frost, of Rogersville, Tenn., has moved up the acting ranks during his time at The Miracle Theater in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Appearing for his fourth season in “The Miracle,” Frost was promoted at the beginning of the 2008 season to play the featured role of John the Baptist. During the first and second seasons, Frost played the roles of Joseph and John of Zebedee. By the end of the summer of 2008, Frost reached a milestone appearing in his 1000th show with the production.

“The Miracle” is a multi-million dollar, original, Broadway-style musical based on the life and miracles of Jesus Christ.  Frost says being a part of the cast is more than an opportunity to sing and act. “I knew this was something I wanted to be a part of when I auditioned in October 2005 because it is a religious production that reaches out to people and tells them there is hope in Christ.”

It is common for actors to change roles annually. But Frost explains he has chosen to stay at The Miracle Theater to support its mission. “I’m not an actor that feels I need to move around a lot. It’s been important for me to continue with this production because it’s a show that has meaning. It might be fun to go out and sing country songs, but I’d rather go out on stage and do something that could potentially change people’s lives.”

Frost says he has seen the evidence of change throughout his four years with the show. “I’ve seen first-hand the changes in people’s heart. We receive numerous cards, e-mails and letters telling us through their testimony how the show made an impact on their lives. I also run into people on the street that come up and tell me this was the most moving show they had ever seen. It makes me want to stay here and be a part of it.”

This year, Frost has found additional ambition in being a part of the theater’s other faith-based Christian show called Exalt Christian Concert. The show is a blend of musical styles including contemporary Christian hits from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, popular contemporary worship music and southern gospel tunes.

This show features the most beloved and cherished Christian music of all time including songs made famous by Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, Steven Curtis Chapman, Chris Tomlin, the Gaither Vocal Band, Rich Mullins, Steve Green, Twila Paris, Dottie Rambo, Sandi Patty, Third Day and more.  Fans are treated to today’s most popular outstanding contemporary worship and contemporary hits as well as great hymns of the church. The song list includes, “How Majestic Is Your Name,” and “People Need the Lord.”  Frost is a singer in the show along with his new bride, Jen Gilbert Frost. He says, “I’m excited to be able to do my part in both the Miracle and the Exalt shows.”

Frost is also excited about playing John the Baptist in the Miracle Show again this season. It was a part he went for through the audition process for this season. “John the Baptist’s role includes a song that I knew would fit my voice. I changed some of the arrangement and auditioned my version for Linda Nell Cooper who wrote the music for ‘The Miracle.’ She said that is how the song was supposed to be performed, and I got the part.” Frost says his featured scene lasts about ten minutes on stage. He enjoys singing his new version of “Wade into the Water” every performance. “It is a thrilling role for me.”

Many performers in “The Miracle” production also have solo careers and other projects they work on. Frost is no exception. Frost recorded his first solo album last fall through the Eddie Crook Recording Company in Nashville. Frost is the singer and songwriter on all the album’s songs, which he describes as contemporary Southern Gospel music.

His solo album opportunity came after winning the Eddie Crook Company’s Song of the Year Award this past year. The award-winning song was The Kirkland’s chart-topper, “When I Could Not Pray.” An accomplished and registered songwriter, Frost also has written music that has been recorded by some of Christian music’s top artists, such as Ivan Parker, Heirline, and The Wilburns.

Frost isn’t new to the recording industry. He has been singing with his family’s gospel music ministry “The Frosts Family Trio” since 1990. He has seen much success with the group as the lead singer and songwriter of the professional group, which records for Morningstar Signature Records in Nashville, Tenn. The group has toured all across the Southeastern U.S. and has had several songs to receive nationwide radio airplay and chart in the “Singing News” magazine’s Top 80 list—one of the most popular Southern Gospel music charts. The Frost’s album “All For The Almighty” is available for sale in The Miracle Theater gift shop, located in the theater’s lobby.
Prior to joining the cast of “The Miracle,” Frost worked as a production manager and entertainment editor for his hometown newspaper, “The Rogersville Review”.

Frost graduated from Cherokee High School in Rogersville, Tenn. in 1994, after which he attended Walters State Community College.  He is the son of Robin Frost and the late Reverend Bobby Frost, and the grandson of Bonnie Frost Light—all of Rogersville. He is a member of Friendly View Missionary Baptist Church in Rogersville, Tenn.

Frost is dedicating his performance in “The Miracle” to both his parents. He says, “My dad passed away in 1995 when I was only 19-years-old. He never had the chance to see me do this, although he always encouraged me to follow my dreams. I believe my dad is watching from above. I am thankful that my mom has been able to see the show and share this experience with me. She has been my greatest support.”
